Cambridge IGCSE French
Description and Recognition
The Cambridge IGCSE is the most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 years old in the world. Almost 500 000 entries are recorded each year from over 140 countries, through 2 900 schools worldwide including more than 900 in the UK.
IGCSE provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Advanced and other further higher educational system. Many universities worldwide require a combination of Cambridge International A Levels and Cambridge IGCSEs to meet their entry requirement.
One of the most important assets of the Cambridge IGCSE is the rich content of the curriculum, which includes 70 subjects and more than 30 languages.
To fulfill the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, candidates have to pass examinations by taking at least seven subjects including two languages. According to application statistics from the past years, French is the most selected language

IGCSE French (First Language)
This syllabus is designed for learners whose first language is French. The examination includes 2 main papers: reading and writing.
Paper 1: Reading – 2 hours
Questions relate to two passages of approximately 600–700 words each, linked by a common theme.

Question 2 (25 marks)
Paper 2: Writing – 2 hours
Candidates are required to write two compositions, one from each section.
Section 1 – Discussion and Argument (25 marks)
Section 2 – Description and Narration (25 marks)
Grades available: A, C, F

This syllabus is designed for learners who are learning French as a foreign language. The examination includes 4 main papers: Listening, reading and directed writing, speaking and continuous writing.

Paper 2: Reading and Directed writing - 1½ hour
Paper 3: Speaking - 15 minutes
Paper 4: Continuous Writing - 1¼ hour
